first_img Arsene Wenger wants Jack Wilshere to reinvigorate his stalling career 1 Arsenal are willing to loan out Jack Wilshere in a bid to kickstart the midfielder’s career, according to reports. The Gunners academy graduate has played just 37 mintues of action this season, and there is no clear route to the Arsenal first-team for the England international. With a number of injury problems behind him, head coach Arsene Wenger is keen to send Wilshere out on loan, so he can prove his fitness and kickstart a stuttering career.Considered one of the brightest talents of his generation, Wilshere spent the majoriry of last season injured, and his lack of game time resulted in the 24-year-old missing out on a call up to Sam Allardyce’s first England squad.Wenger believes Wilshere still has a future at the Emirates, but feels he will benefit from playing regularly away from the club.Reports indicate a number of Premier League and overseas clubs have shown an interest in the midfielder, although Wenger will not sanction a deal which sees Wilshere link up with a top four rival.last_img read more

A Guy Who Repeatedly Hired Prostitutes to Strip on His Neighbor’s Porch Gets Four Years in Prison

first_imgBack in May, a 45-year-old guy from Elkhorn, Nebraska named Douglas Goldsberry was arrested for repeatedly hiring PROSTITUTES to go to his neighbors’ house and strip on their porch.  He sent the hookers at least 75 times over the course of four years. One of the strangest criminals we heard about all year is now going to prison. The neighbors said they’d never had any issues with him, so they weren’t sure WHY he sent the prostitutes.  But we DO know that sometimes when they were done stripping, Douglas would get-it-on with them. But that’s not the only prison time this idiot is facing.  Apparently the cops also found some child pornography at this guy’s house, so he could be facing up to 20 years in federal prison. He wound up pleading no contest to pandering in September.  And on Friday, he was sentenced to four years in prison.last_img read more

SA business gets tech-savvy

The Mobile Corporation in South Africa 2010 report reveals that three-quarters of South African companies have deployed smartphones in their organisations, compared to almost none two years ago.The study, backed by First National Bank and Research In Motion (RIM), shows that saturation point has almost been reached by large South African companies in the use of fixed landlines (96%) and ordinary cellphones (92%). And, as forecast in 2007, 3G data card penetration has also reached near saturation, with 94% of large companies deploying it. Now the focus has turned to integration of smartphones with business processes.“These results show that enterprise mobility solutions are no longer just nice to have,” says Deon Liebenberg, RIM’s regional director for sub-Saharan Africa. “They’re essential for businesses that want to be competitive, responsive and efficient in a world where a customer won’t wait for a salesperson who is visiting customers and where project flow can’t stop because a manager is at a full-day meeting.“Not only does mobility allow companies to improve internal efficiencies and communications, it also enables them to interact more effectively with their increasingly mobile customers.”The study also showed that corporate South Africa expects to embrace the new world of online services to an extent that was not even anticipated as recently as one year ago.“Until last year, concepts like software as a service (Saas) and cloud computing were regarded as little more than buzzwords,” says Arthur Goldstuck, MD of World Wide Worx.Yet, in the next 24 months, 84% of South African corporations expect to have a Saas strategy in place, and 60% expect to have adopted a cloud computing strategy.“These aren’t technologies as such,” says Goldstuck. “They are strategies that make the organisation’s use of new technology more efficient. From storage systems to software deployment, from hardware upgrades to network capacity to bandwidth, the focus is on cost-effectiveness, flexibility and mobility.”Among the technologies expected to take off as a result of the Saas and cloud computing revolution are:Fixed-mobile convergence, with 72% of companies expecting to adopt systems that allow seamless connectivity between fixed and mobile networks.Virtualisation, with 65% expected to embrace this flexible and cost-effective approach to network and server technology.Outsourced storage and archiving systems, with half of large South African companies predicting they will be using it in the next 24 months. The combined effect of these technologies is that, while the organisation’s buildings and infrastructure may still be confined to a specific site, its people, activities, information, documentation and data have been freed from location.“We are literally seeing the foundations being laid for the company of the future,” says Goldstuck.Liebenberg adds: “Smartphones are now mainstream devices within South African businesses, but the smartphone revolution has only just begun. Enterprises should now be looking at what smartphones mean for their businesses in a more strategic and holistic fashion. They need to work towards mobilising their core internal and customer-facing processes so that their employees can use ubiquitous connectivity to be productive and responsive wherever they are.”The Mobile Corporation in South Africa 2010 forms part of the Mobility 2009 project, which included research among 1 000 consumers, 1 000 small and medium enterprisese and 240 large enterprises in South Africa.last_img read more

Google-built pages may be the only pages that have a bigger advantage in search than the widely linked Wikipedia reference pages.Update: I talked to Ward Cunningham, inventor of the wiki and on the Wikipedia board of advisers, today about Knols vs. Wikipedia. Here’s what he had to say: “It’s trying to set up an economy of writing and the web is a great place to try to experiment with different economies. Wikipedia has already succeeded with one, and these are two different styles. If Google intentionally diverts people from Wikipedia they would be doing a disservice to their readers. Most likely readers will have to chose between the two and Wikipedia already has a very successful brand.” That seems like an overly optimistic assessment of the situation to me, but Cunningham certainly could be right. Air India owes Rs 5000 cr in fuel dues hasnt paid in

first_imgNew Delhi: Air India owes three state-owned oil firms Rs 5,000 crore in unpaid fuel bills with payments being delayed by almost eight months, forcing retailers to snap supplies, Indian Oil Corp (IOC) said on Friday. IOC, Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) on Thursday afternoon stopped jet fuel or ATF supplies to Air India at six airports – Kochi, Pune, Patna, Ranchi, Vizag and Mohali – over payment defaults. Also Read – Thermal coal import may surpass 200 MT this fiscal”The joint decision to stop fuel supply to Air India from six airports, i.e., Kochi, Mohali, Pune, Ranchi, Patna and Visakhapatnam, was taken by the oil marketing companies in the wake of long overdue payments to the tune of Rs 5,000 crore,” IOC said in a statement issued on behalf of the three firms explaining the constraints that led to take the harsh decision. The overdue amount includes the interest accrued on the outstanding dues. Air India has a 90 day credit period, which means the aviation turbine fuel (ATF) it buys on a given day has to be paid for in three months. But Air India had not been making payments and the credit period was now 230 days, IOC said.last_img read more

Opinion Career of Amir Williams is a mystery that will never be

Senior center Amir Williams (23) averaged just 6.4 points in his final campaign at OSU.Credit: Samantha Hollingshead / Lantern photographerWhat comes to mind when I say the name Amir Williams? For me, it’s one word: disappointment. Not in the person, because the senior was always an entertaining interview and more often than not earned high praise from coach Thad Matta. But in the player.A player who was rated higher than the likes of Ben McLemore and Trey Burke and was the fifth-rated center in the 2011 recruiting class averaged just 4.8 points per game in his career and became one of the most criticized players at Ohio State in any sport.Whether it was a missed dunk, putting the ball on the floor despite being wide open under the basket, or celebrating a dunk when it doesn’t matter, the Michigan native will no longer put on the scarlet and gray, and that seems to make OSU fans happy. The only other names that come to mind when it comes to pure fan disdain toward a player at OSU were quarterbacks for the football team: Steve Bellisari and Joe Bauserman. While Bauserman did not come to Columbus as a highly touted recruit, both Bellisari — recruited by Notre Dame, Florida State and West Virginia — and Williams largely disappointed. To Williams’ credit, he stayed out of trouble off the court to our knowledge, while Bellisari’s drinking escapade just hours before his senior day added embarrassment to his lack of production on the field. For Williams, it will always be a case of what could have been, not only for him, but for the team as a whole. The Buckeyes fell to the No. 2 seed Arizona Wildcats on Saturday in the NCAA Tournament, in large part because of a lack of rebounding. The Wildcats pulled down 17 more rebounds than the Buckeyes, and OSU’s leading rebounders pulled down just four boards each.If OSU would have pulled the upset over Arizona, it would have played in-state rival Xavier and who knows what could have happened in that game. The 6-foot-11 Williams pulled down four rebounds in 24 minutes of play against the Wildcats, while 6-foot-5 guard D’Angelo Russell managed seven.Williams, who started 29 of OSU’s 35 games, did not pull down double-digit rebounds in a single game in his final campaign in Columbus. His senior center counterpart, Trey McDonald, who stands three inches shorter and did not start a single game in his OSU career, tallied 14 rebounds in a single game against Sacred Heart on Nov. 23 in 21 minutes of play.So why didn’t Williams pan out at OSU? We might never know. The curious case of Benjamin Button has nothing on Williams, whose best season came in 2013-14 when he averaged a whopping 7.8 points per game.It is hard to believe that 7.8 points per game was the ceiling for Williams in four years at OSU, but we will never know why that ended up being the high point of his career. For OSU fans, there is hope, however, as the football team was able to replace its former fan least-favorites with Craig Krenzel and Braxton Miller, respectively .So, to whomever replaces Williams, no pressure. read more

Football Tate Martell to transfer to University of Miami

Ohio State redshirt freshman quarterback Tate Martell (18) prepares to run a play in the second half of the game against Michigan on Nov. 24. Ohio State won 62-39. Credit: Casey Cascaldo | Photo EditorThe quarterback battle between Ohio State redshirt sophomore quarterback Tate Martell and recent Georgia transfer, freshman quarterback Justin Fields officially has come to an end before it ever really started. On Wednesday, Martell announced he will be transferring from Ohio State to the University of Miami six days after he entered his name into the transfer portal.Martell visited Miami and West Virginia before ultimately selecting the Hurricanes. On Dec. 30, Martell was asked about Fields, who was rumored at the time to be looking at the Buckeyes as a location to transfer if redshirt sophomore quarterback Dwayne Haskins decided to go to the NFL Draft. At the time, Martell voiced no doubt about his position on the team if Haskins were to leave, saying he was “100 percent sure” he would be the starter if that time came.Fields announced his transfer to the program on Jan. 4. Martell put his name in the transfer portal six days later.Martell saw time in six games this season, finishing 2018 completing 23-of-28 passes for 269 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. The redshirt freshman’s highlight performance came against Rutgers, where Martell completed all 10 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown, including a 51-yard score to redshirt senior wide receiver Terry McLaurin. Martell also rushed eight times for 95 yards and a touchdown in the 52-3 win.A four-star prospect out of high school, Martell went 45-0 as a high-school starter at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, finishing No. 2 in the state in all-time passing yards and passing touchdowns.Ohio State has Fields, junior Chris Chugunov and freshman Matthew Baldwin left at the quarterback position following Martell’s transfer.Fields is awaiting confirmation that he will be able to play in 2019, forgoing the usual transfer rule that requires players to sit out a season between transferring schools. read more
